My Weight Loss Program, or How I'm Loosing Weight

January 29, 2009, I did it! |
It really is a matter of diet and exercise. Don’t let all those diet/pill ads on TV fool you. If you want to lose a few pounds (or a lot of pounds), then you have to use more calories over the course of a day than you take in. You have to do that every day. Once you’ve used 3,500 calories more than you took in, you’ll lose a pound. That’s it. It’s that simple.
I'm working down from 205 pounds. I’d really like to get down to 175 (as of 8/21 I'm there now!). New goal is 165. I’m sure my ideal weight is something like 150, but I’m not going to kill myself to get there. I’m just trying to loose a little weight. The loss will stop when it does.
What's working for me right now is cycling. I'm riding a little more than 100 miles a week right now (August 21, 2008), depending on how many days a week I'm able to get out for a ride. The best part is that I'm really enjoying it. I look forward to riding every day and miss it on those days I don't.
You might choose running, walking, skateboarding or any number of other methods of getting exercise. Whatever you choose, make sure that it's something that you enjoy. If you don't enjoy it, you won't do it.
I’m going to add new entries to this blog as I go through this weight loss program. Entries will be about whatever I was thinking about on my morning ride. From choosing a bike to riding technique to hydration to diet tips.
Hopefully my blog will encourage you to try to get into shape as well. Remember, all you really need to do to lose weight is eat a little less and exercise a little more (or a little). If you are feeling motivated, please see your doctor before starting an exercise program. Make sure you start with something appropriate for your current condition and increase the level as you get stronger.
If you decide to give this weight loss program a go, I'd love to hear from you. I might even post some of the letters. Please e-mail me at jspublications@mindspring.com. If you do, maybe it'll help to send me a dollar for each pound you lose, I take PayPal ;-).
