I've spent a lot of time recently working on pulling 4 from the belt on the way
to pick up my 97. I got to thinking about it with the SxS and found that it shaved
a full second off of a 4 shot run! Spend some time working on it with dummy rounds
and you'll see what I mean.
This technique requires that you are moving to your shotgun and have time to get
four rounds into your hands.
Dummy shells were used for this example. When practicing, make sure
that there is no live ammunition in the area.
- Start with your shotgun staged on a table, lying on it's right side. While moving to your shotgun, grab 2 shells in each hand. The shells in the left hand must be tucked all the way back in the web between your thumb and first finger.

- Pick up the shotgun with the fingers of your left hand, and sort of "roll" it into your hand so that you don't upset the shells. Shoulder the butt of the gun (you might find it easier to load the shells without shouldering the gun, if that works better for you, go for it!) so that you have enough leverage to load the shells in your right hand using the technique described here. Note in the picture the location of the 2 shells
in my left hand.

- Fire the first 2 shells. Note the location of the 2 shells in my left hand.

- Shuck out the 2 used shells, reshoulder the shotgun, and load the 2 from the
left hand by rolling them into the chambers from above.

Make sure to keep your eyes on the chambers as you load! |
